Precious Aprons and a fabulous BFF!

So, my wonderful BFF, Claire, is one of the most crafty, and creative people I know! Seriously, this girl has so many awesome ideas.  She even inspired me to get a blog!  


Well, next week is my birthday, and she surprised me with this precious apron.  She even gave me some sticks to write my kids names on!! She is the best!!

Because I have just started blogging, I thought there could be no better way to do this than to Link Up with a blog I have stalked for months now... The First Grade Parade! She is having a Linky Party and it seems so fun! 


A little about me...

My name is Kylie and I am a senior at Oklahoma State University (Go Pokes!) I am technically not a full fledged teacher, but am SO close I can hardly wait!! I am currently student teaching in a first grade class in a town next to Stillwater.  I have the greatest class, and the greatest mentor teacher! I am from Texas, but graduated from a school in Oklahoma.  I am excited to move back to Texas when I graduate and God willing get a job in the DFW area.  I am the middle of 5 kids and absolutely adore my family.  They are simply the best! My mom teaches 3rd grade and my oldest sister teaches 4th grade, so the teaching thing certainly runs in the family!

 The Q & A

Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t a teacher?                                         
A:  Well, like many others, I have always known I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up! But if I couldn't be that, I think I would either want to be a librarian or a teacher in a Children's Hospital. Q: What are your hobbies?                                                                                
A: Anything teacher? I also LOVE to bake, be with friends, and I am a new addict to this blogging world.                                                               Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?                 
A:  I wanted to be a teacher! I would play school with anything that would (or wouldn't) listen to me. :)
    Q: What are your guilty pleasures?                                                              
 A: Definitely the Bachelor, diet coke, ice cream, finding great deals on ANYTHING (I LOVE to shop!) and probably most importantly, flying anywhere.  Traveling is definitely one of my passions! Q: What is your biggest fear?!                                                                   
 A: Most definitely tornadoes.  And this is NOT a good thing living smack-dab in the heart of tornado alley! Q: When you’re on vacation, where do you like to go?                               
 A: This is a toss up between a few things.  In the summer, I love the mountains or the beach.  In the fall and winter, I love Disney World (really year-round actually).  I am planning a big trip to Europe in the summer of 2012...so stay tuned!                                                           
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?                                              
A:  "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, and with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" Phil 4:6.  Why worry when we know God has the greatest plan and knows EVERYTHING about our lives? How cool is that??
Q: What do you value most in others?                                                               
A:  Honesty.  Whether it is honesty with others or honesty with yourself, this is a quality that is KEY for a great life! Q: If you could choose one of your personality traits to pass down to your kids, what would it be?                                                                                                    
A: Seeing the glass half-full! I love to think that I can always find the good in a situation.     Q: If you could have lunch with anyone in the world….living or dead…who would it be?                                                                                                           
A: Probably Natalie Grant--the Christian singer--because she is my absolute FAVORITE! I so admire her faith,and I am sure I could learn a lot from her! :)

Now tell us one random thing about yourself:

Every time I am home, I go to my mom's classroom.  Not only do I treasure the time I get to spend with her, I just CAN'T sit at home knowing there is fun going on at school! SO, since my freshman year of college, I have spent almost 700 hours volunteering in her room.  I truly will miss that when I have my own classroom, but can't wait for it either! :) 

Happy snow day number 2! I am hoping we will have another one tomorrow, because I know I will be the biggest scaredy-cat driving 20 minutes to my school.  Have a Wonderful Wednesday!

100's Day and MLK

We celebrated 100's Day last week, and I was so excited to be a part of this day! We had fun activities planned throughout the day.

There were 5 different centers that the students were able to go to.

In the first center, the students were given 100 shapes and had to work as a group to make a picture together.

The second center had the students make a necklace after placing fruit loops on a 100's chart. They LOVED eating their necklaces later!

In the third center, the students created a picture of what they thought they would look like when they are 100 years old.  I got this idea from another blog, and thought it was too cute to pass up! We cut out circles from a brown paper bag, and the kids wrinkled the faces to make their "wrinkly" faces.

The girl who made this has long blonde hair, and when Mrs. M asked her if she was going to cut her hair when she is older like this, she said, "No! It just shrinks up!" :)

In the fourth center, the students played Race to 100.

In the fifth center, the students had a Dice Roll game, where they rolled the dice 100 times.

They loved their centers!  We made a book for the kids to fill out, and it was so fun to see what they thought about different 100 items.

                                              I could eat 100 broccoli because it is green.

                                       When I am 100, I hope I can still see Statue of Liberty because I like it. 

         It would be difficult if there were 100 boys because I do not like them. (Her mom needs to keep this for when she is older! :) )

                                       It would be difficult if there were 100 sisters because they are annoying.

                                     It would be difficult if there were 100 frogs to catch because they are fast.

                      It would be difficult if there were 100 bugs because it would be hard to find my mom.

                And my personal favorite.... If I had $100.00 I would buy a car because I think I am ready.


Our 100's day was SO fun! We finished it off by watching 101 Dalmatian's and had a spectacular and exciting calendar time!

Earlier this week, Mrs. M wanted to do something with art and Martin Luther King Jr., so we decided to do a symmetry activity.  This was so easy and fun! We used a Scholastic Reader that had a picture of Martin Luther King Jr. on the front and cut each picture in half.  We talked about different things that were symmetrical, and then talked about our faces.  Their pictures were each unique and precious.

This one is hard to see, but it was colored with the peach crayon.  How precious that she couldn't even see the colors! 


We are starting a Flat Stanley unit...so more to come on that later!

For now, we are enjoying a couple of SNOWED IN DAYS! Fun time with the roommates!

Anxiously Excited!

I am finally creating my first blog post...I have had this blog for a couple of weeks now, but haven't had the courage to post anything just yet!! I am excited to share ideas and work with the blogging world, as well as have a place to record and remember.  


This semester has started and is in FULL swing! I am in love with my class, and have the greatest cooperating teacher ever! We mesh so well, and I am truly blessed.  There are 20 crazy and unique first graders in my class, and I am loving getting to know each of their special personalities.  I am loving teaching, and am so thankful that I am sure this is what I should be doing for the rest of my life! TOO exciting!
